The COVID-19 pandemic has accelerated the level of change and adaptation of new technology in healthcare technology industry. This comprehensive survey will help to obtain information in regards to healthcare delivery mediums that is most frequently utilized by patients, and whether patients are satisfied with the methods and options available that are used to conduct telemedicine appointments.

When performing preliminary research regarding COVID-19 impacts on healthcare, many of the individual articles reviewed covered specific scenarios of how COVID-19 negatively impacted or positively impacted a particular situation. The amount of research completed and studies done in regards to individual scenarios outlined in each paper appears to be fairly limited due to the evolving nature of the topic.

In the studies reviewed, important data was collected that marks an important first step to determining whether the ability to implement telemedicine is reasonable, and if telemedicine is a viable alternative to in person visits. While the information obtained from the studies is a good start, it does not focus on the individuals receiving care in Ontario and populated areas, as well as across different health networks. The survey will ultimately outline whether patients are supportive and accepting of virtual care on a permanent basis, which may assist institutions, organizations, and governments in making informed decisions if proceeding with a permanent implementation of virtual care, taking note of what can be done to improve the quality of virtual care, in order to maintain a high standard of care.

The survey that will be released will assist in determining whether patients are comfortable with the mediums used to conduct telemedicine and virtual healthcare from a security standpoint, or if they have concerns regarding the protection of their personal health information shared during these virtual appointments. This study will also connect the information to important data points, such as internet access and reliability. Ultimately, the survey will aim to provide crucial information to the public in hopes of providing accurate information to help to determine whether virtual healthcare in Ontario is a viable, long-term alternative to the traditional in person appointment across different disciplines of healthcare.

The survey is currently being reviewed by the University of Windsor Research Ethics Board, and will be released to the public once clearance is obtained.
